The Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest departments of this university. This department started functioning from the very beginning of engineering education in this country. The Department of Mathematics provides engineering oriented undergraduate mathematics courses to all engineering, architecture & planning students at BUET and offers M.Sc, M.Phil and PhD degree in Mathematics. The department is offering postgraduate courses since 1986. Each year this department is awarding the highest number of MPhil degree in Mathematics in Bangladesh and remains the highest number of MPhil degree awarding department of its kind in our country. Some postgraduate courses are also being offered for the students of the departments of MME, WRE, NAME etc. The standard of the courses offered are comparable to those of any other standard international universities.
